Continuing the business trip to cooperative and friendly cities in the French Republic and the Kingdom of Belgium, on the days from March 5 to 8, 2024, Hue city working delegation led by Mr. Phan Thien Dinh, Standing Member, Secretary of Hue City Party Committee, Chairman of Hue City People's Council has visited and worked in Namur city and Brussels city, Kingdom of Belgium.
As the capital of the Walloon Region of Belgium's French-speaking community, Namur is known as a city of culture, services and university training with a rich heritage, diverse with many cultural, historical and artistic festivals held all year round, attracting tourists from cities and regions in the country and European countries. With the orientation and efforts to turn Namur into an innovative, creative and livable city, the city government has taken many initiatives and drastic actions which aims to renovate the city center area, giving priority to expanding pedestrian space, bringing the image of a Namur that is both ancient, charming, dynamic, new and modern, attracting people and tourists come to visit, play and entertain. Both are active members of the International Association of Francophone Mayors (AIMF), the two cities of Namur and Hue signed a twinning agreement in 2009, opening up many opportunities for cooperation in various fields, including health, tourism, environment, urban management, culture, festivals, education and training, youth exchange, sustainable development... Many group exchange programs, learning experiences in management, organization, urban planning, training staff in the field of green parks and artistic lighting... has been deployed by Namur for Hue city within the framework of these cooperation. Especially in 2023, Namur city's stilt troupe came to Hue city to attend Hue Traditional Craft Festival 2023 and left many good impressions on Hue city residents and visitors to the festival.
Working with Mr. Maxime Prévot - Mayor of Namur city, Ms. Sophie Marischal - Director of the "Smart and Sustainable Namur" (NID), Mr. Laurent Fabri - Design expert, representatives of the two cities discussed issues to concretize the policy of Namur city supporting Hue city with experts to plan and build the model "Hue House - Smart and Sustainable" was raised by the leaders of the two cities in previous working sessions. Based on listening to preliminary presentations of experts' ideas, leaders of the two cities discussed and agreed on a roadmap, assigned responsibilities, and designated connection points to continue providing information, perfecting ideas, and preparing funding requests in the future.
Through the introduction of the Mayor of Namur city, the delegation also spent time meeting Ms. Annick Castiaux - Principal of Namur University. The two sides discussed issues to promote connectivity, increase exchanges and cooperation in education between the two localities and universities in the two cities.
Visiting and working in Brussels, Hue city delegation was welcomed by Mr. Fabien Maingain, Vice Mayor in charge of Economy, Employment, Smart Cities and Administrative Reform and introduced about the development history, the city's strategic location as the capital of the Kingdom of Belgium and of the entire European Union. Mr. Phan Thien Dinh, Secretary of Hue City Party Committee, Chairman of Hue City People's Council also shared key information, overviewing the potential and strengths of the city, at the same time proposing some cooperation content in fields that both sides have mutual interest in and strengths. The leaders of the two cities agreed to go through each side's international cooperation agency to discuss details of specific cooperation needs, with an immediate focus on fields such as education and training, culture, French language...
Hue city leadership delegation successfully concluded a business trip to localities in the Republic of France and the Kingdom of Belgium, opening up many opportunities for cooperation and strengthening relations with neighboring cities in the coming time.
