The event was attended by Mr. Hoang Dao Cuong - Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism; Mr. Phan Ngoc Tho - Permanent Deputy Secretary of the Thua Thien Hue Provincial Party Committee, Mr. Nguyen Van Phuong - Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Thua Thien Hue Provincial People's Committee; together with leaders of ministries, branches, and central agencies, leaders of the province and city, former leaders of the province and city, ambassadors and representatives from national and international organizations.
On the side of Hue City, there were Mr. Phan Thien Dinh - Standing Member of the Provincial Party Committee, Secretary of the City Party Committee, Chairman of the Hue City People's Council; Mr. Tran Hung Nam – Permanent Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee; Mr. Vo Le Nhat - Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee, Chairman of the City People's Committee, Head of the Organizing Committee of Hue Traditional Craft Festival 2023; with the participation of comrades of the Standing Committee of the City Party Committee - Standing Committee of People's Council - People's Committee - Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Hue city; representatives of the armed forces; city agencies and units.
The Hue Traditional Craft Festival 2023, entitled “The quintessence of Vietnamese traditional crafts”, took place from April 28 to May 5, 2023. This is a series of events highlighting Hue Festival 2023, organized according to the four-season orientation; it is a culturally and socio-economically significant festival on national level and with international elements, contributing to enhancing the position of Hue as "The Green Ancient Capital City - World Heritage - Safe and Friendly City".
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mr. Vo Le Nhat, Chairman of the People's Committee of Hue City and Head of the Organizing Committee of the Hue Traditional Craft Festival 2023, emphasized that following the success and promoting positive achievements after 8 previous seasons, the festival with the theme "The Quintessence of Vietnamese Traditional Crafts" would take place from April 28th to May 5th, 2023. This would be a series of events highlighting Hue Festival 2023, organized according to the four-season orientation; it is a culturally and socio-economically significant festival on national level and with international elements, contributing to enhancing the position of Hue as "The Green Ancient Capital City - World Heritage - Safe and Friendly City".
The Hue Traditional Craft Festival 2023 is a place to honor the beauty and showcase the traditional handicrafts, bringing together talented artisans and researching contemporary innovative methods. It is held in the characteristic landscape and culture of Hue City. This festival is also a gathering space for generations of craftsmen, artists, researchers, organizations, individuals from both domestic and international communities to participate in preserving and promoting the values of traditional crafts. Along with a series of unique cultural and artistic events, the lively and colorful festival atmosphere will contribute to promoting commercial and tourism activities, economic and socio-cultural development in the region, and continue to affirm the brand name: Hue - the specific festival city of Vietnam.
Hopefully, this year’s festival would be a huge success with the efforts and elaborate preparation of the organizing committee as well as relevant units, the active participation of domestic and international art troupes, artisans, artists, researchers, entrepreneurs, the whole people and tourists.
Accordingly, it gathered over 350 people's and elite artisans from 69 famous craft villages and establishments across the country such as weaving, fine art carpentry, sculpture, mosaic carving, lacquer, gilded lacquer, goldsmithing, rattan and bamboo art, paper making, traditional folk painting, ceramic craft, enamel painting, etc. This also had the participation of 37 artisans from six cities having twinning and cooperative relations with Hue city in Korea and Japan, Korea Tradition Culture Research Institute & Korea Tradition Culture Research Promote Institute.
Coming to this year's festival, locals and visitors were able to experience traditional craft activities stretched along both banks of Perfume River and Truong Tien Bridge. Besides, sideline and community activities were held across city center and surrounding areas. This year, the community interaction would be the highlight, promising to leave a lasting impression on the public and visitors.
In addition to programs already organized in previous seasons such as grand opening ceremony, closing ceremony, commemoration rite to patrons of all crafts – crafts honoring procession and gastronomy hub, this year’s festival brings new programs such as spectacle “tribute to the Perfume River”, street parade, cultural exchange gala among Hue’s sister cities and partner organizations in country and abroad, “youthful beat” concert, etc.
